I havent sold or bought anything on ebay before.
i do know how the selling works, ive looked into it once when i had alot of stuff to sell prior moving to melbourne (it was everything in our house almost) and ive looked into buying as i often drool thru some hello kitty items and other cute stuff..
i know a bad egg when i see one tho. And ebay trying to get immunity from the trade practices act in regard to using paypal & COD as only payment options isn't good..
besides charging double fees.. it wouldn't be too bad if they had some competition like other secure online paypal-ish things like the one google has?
anyways theres a online petition and the ACCC is open to public opinion till may 2.
Sign the petition if u think ebay is greedy ;)

Apart from the fees associated with paypal I am happy with the structure. The day before they launched this I registered a complaint with the trust and safety committee because something I bought didn't turn up. The person I dealt with is a scam artist and refuses to give me a refund and argues that I MUST of received it. (beware surfwaxworld)
If I'd had the option of paying with paypal I would have had a refund.
ive done heaps of trading with ebay. its a really gd way of geting rid of stuff even though sometimes u dont get much for it...i dont know how this new structure will affect me but i did do a lot of selling and a bit of buying prior to my japan trip. I was going to sell a whole load on my return but i'll have to think twice about it now.
I have a feedback score of over 400 on eBay and so I'm a seasoned buyer and seller. When I received the seller email from eBay telling me about the changes (last week I think it was).. I was shocked. I rang hubby and he could hardly believe it either.
I've been ripped off before and not had my money returned (and I paid by PayPal).. and I've also had a full refund awarded to me (when I paid with PayPal). As far as paying by direct bank deposit or Pick-up of the item.. I have only ever paid for one item before by bank deposit where I didn't receive the item or ever hear from the seller again.. which was then followed by them being deregistered (an oriental design "silk look" purse.. for around $8). I wouldn't have been covered by PayPal in that instance anyway because the rule has been the item has to be worth $25 or more for you to qualify for "protection". Most of the items I have bought in my eBay history have been under $25. Actually under $15.
I don't offer PayPal anymore to my Australian customers because it costs me too much money! I get charged firstly a listing fee from eBay, then a final value fee when the item sells. Then (if someone paid by PayPal) PayPal charges me to receive their money and then for me to access that money it costs me $1 each time I withdraw to my bank account.. and it can only be amounts over $15. I can't just sell a $5 item for example and then access the funds. I will have to pay for the postage out of my own pocket..and then wait for my balance to build-up then pay to withdraw it from PayPal into my bank account.
Sometimes the most I'd make on anything I've sold is $5..and when you're getting slugged left, right and centre for fee's.. it's just not worth it. You have to sell in bulk..or sell big ticket items or falsely inflate your postage costs to cover all your fee's..which is not right. As a buyer too, I can't stand over-inflated postage prices. eBay won't let you tack-on a "PayPal fee" to cover your costs. I once spotted some sellers doing that.. I didn't know it was wrong.. so I did it too... and was able then to offer PayPal to whoever was willing to pay the $2 surcharge and nobody complained at all. But then I was reported by someone (dobbed in).. and I had a bunch of listings pulled for violating eBay policies. I was shocked and distressed by the experience. I'd put a lot of work into writing up and creating the listings too.
I like having the option of direct bank deposit.. either in person or electronic funds transfer.
I find the new changes "shifty".. and a wolf in sheep's clothing. eBay are looking after #1.. but of course they're going to say it's for our own good.
If anyone wishes to pay for something via PayPal to protect themselves.. then only buy from sellers who offer it and avoid sellers that don't.
I'm just not happy Jan.
